We’ll show you why we live in the world capital of beer and brewing. Munich is the home of famous beer halls, leafy beer gardens — and, of course, of Oktoberfest.
We’ll bring you to visit the beautiful Beer and Oktoberfest Museum and give you the history of beer in Bavaria — the oldest and most celebrated beer and brewing culture in all of Germany. It’s a much older story than Oktoberfest and older than the beer gardens too! The Bavarians learned to brew excellent beer centuries before most other settled places in Europe, and the local brewery’s spot near fresh mountain water definitely didn’t hurt. When the great historic institution of the monastic brewery was established in the Middle Ages, local people had already known for years how to brew a fine beer, offering their take on the craft. The brewery is as ancient an institution here as the church.
Munich is the world capital of beer.
Its taverns have been serving exquisite beer and food for centuries, and it’s the hometown of the world’s biggest beer festival: Oktoberfest. This unique trip is your shortcut to all of it, without needing a whole trip’s worth of research beforehand.
After that visit, we’ll have a proper tasting session, right on the museum grounds. While you’re tasting the best beer any local brewery can provide, we’ll tell you all about it: the secrets of how to brew great beer, and the different varieties of beer that a typical local brewery produces.
We’ll also tell you what a local brewery must do to earn the right to serve its beer at Oktoberfest (there are strict rules!), and how each of the great taverns you see all over the city are attached to a particular brewery, right down to their exact location.
Next up, we’ll walk through the city centre to explore and discover the most famous “Bräuhaus” of them all — the Hofbräuhaus. The gigantic drinking hall of the venerable Hofbräu brewery is the most celebrated in Germany, and therefore the world. No Munich Beer Tour would be complete without a visit to this great shrine of German beer culture, close to Marienplatz and some of the city’s oldest buildings and castles, in a setting few other sights in Munich can match.
For the final stop of the night, we’ll bring you to a classic local restaurant for a food platter of traditional, hearty “Bräuhaus” food. There you can order a full litre “Maß”, and appreciate it all the more after everything you’ve learned on the tour about the 500-year-old “Reinheitsgebot” Purity Law that the brewery still obeys today, using the same recipe it always used — and which underpins the centuries of tradition behind the great time you’re having!

Just like our other tours, the Munich Beer Tour kicks off at the Radius Tours office at Dachauer Straße 4, 80335 Munich, a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof (central station). Look out for the Radius Tours sign near Karl-Stützel-Platz, and come on in instead of wandering the street looking for someone waving a sign. We’re the only Munich tour company with our own dedicated meeting place, so check-in is quick, sheltered, and stress-free — and honestly, a nice little spot to discover while the rest of the group trickles in.

This tour is for ages 16 and up, since it does include drinking beer, so we ask everyone to bring valid photo ID. It’s on foot through the historic centre, covering a comfortable distance between two or three stops, so wear shoes that are good for walking rather than anything fancy. Munich’s weather can be wonderfully unpredictable, even during summer, so a light jacket is always a sensible option, whatever the season.
Just a heads-up: this experience isn’t suitable for stag or hen parties or large, rowdy crowds. We want every guest, and the other visitors sharing the beer halls with us, to have a relaxed and genuinely enjoyable evening. Numbers are kept reasonable so your guide can actually engage with everyone, answer questions, and make sure the stories and samples reach the whole party — not just the loudest people at the front.

The Munich Beer Tour runs twice most evenings, at 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm, and lasts roughly 3.5 hours in total. Booking in advance is a smart move, especially during the summer months and around Oktoberfest, when both time slots fill up fast. You can book online or, if a spot’s still available, directly at our office — though booking ahead is definitely the safer bet during busy weeks.

Yes, the Munich Beer Tour takes place on foot, moving at a relaxed pace between the museum, the Hofbräuhaus, and the final beer hall. The distances are short and manageable for most fitness levels, but comfortable shoes are still a good shout, not just for style, given the cobbled streets in the city centre.

Here’s how your evening unfolds: it all starts at our office, where you’ll meet the rest of the group and head off to visit the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum for a private tour and your welcome beer. There, you’ll learn how beer has been brewed in Bavaria for centuries — long before Oktoberfest even existed — and how the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516 still shapes brewing today. From there, the group moves on to a proper tasting, sampling different regional beers, including a classic Helles, while your guide explains what sets each one apart. The evening continues on foot through the old town and past Marienplatz to the legendary Hofbräuhaus, before finishing up at a traditional restaurant for the Bavarian food platter. Expect roughly 3.5 hours of walking, tasting, and storytelling, all at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops to sit down and enjoy a fresh pint.

A Maß is a full litre of beer, served in the kind of glass mug you’ve probably seen in every Oktoberfest photo ever taken. You’re welcome to order one at the final beer hall stop if three tasting samples somehow haven’t been enough — just know that a Maß is a serious commitment, not a light refreshment!
